Performance Experience as Orchestral and Chamber Musician:
1974-81 Bassoonist with the Orchestras of Irish Radio/Television (RTÉ)
Bassoonist with the Ulysses Wind Quintet, specialising in 20th Century Repertoire.
Conducting Studies and Scholarships:
1978-1979 Conducting studies with George Hurst, Canford Summer School, England.
1981 Scholarships from Irish and French Governments for study at the European Centre for Musical Research, Metz.
1982-1984 Conducting studies with Léon Barzin, Paris.
1984 Selected to represent Ireland at BBC/European Music Year Masterclasses with Edward Downes and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.

1981 2nd Prize at Concours International des Jeunes Chefs d'Orchestre , Besancon, France.
1983 3rd Prize and Public Prize at International Competition for Young Conductors, Budapest.

1984-90 Regular conductor at Opera- Theatre in Metz as well as frequent concerts with the Orchestre National de Lorraine.
Conducted Ulster Orchestra in BBC Proms, Royal Albert Hall, London for 1988 season.
1990-93 Principal Conductor of the Tirgu Mures Philharmonic, Romania.
1991 Guest Conductor at Almeida Festival, London, for premiere of Irish Composer Gerald Barry's opera 'The Intelligence Park'
